Slow Food Movement
The slow food movement, which is similar in some ways to the local food movement, is one that has been spawned by people wishing to have more natural and local forms of food and that has caught on with the help of a few famous chefs here and there. The slow food movement is all about food that is good for you, good for the environment, and good for your wallet. Its about people who are taking back the buying power when it comes to their food and demanding more of the companies that give it to them. People who take part in the slow food movement often buy food that is natural, organic, locally grown or produced, and done so in a sustainable way that doesn’t harm the environment or use a lot of resources. A lot of people that choose to eat this way also follow vegetarian or vegan diets because of the positive impact they have on the environment when it comes to use of resources and sustainability.
The founders and people who are very dedicated to it believe that slow food is the only way that we can continue you on a s a species without risking our own extinction and the destroying of all the planets resources and food sources. There are also a lot of people who believe that by slowing down the process of food production and of eating in general we can get back to a healthier way of eating and even a better one too, citing that food done slowly and sustainably is much better than mass produced food that is lacking on taste. They also say that slow food is much healthier for you and for the most part this can’t be contested. We all know how bad junk food and fast food are for us but slow food, which can end up consisting of a lot of natural and local foods, namely fruits and vegetables can mean a lot in the way of nutrition and eating better.
Slow food has encouraged a lot of people to take a look at the way that they eat and the reasons why and make some pretty significant changes about the foods they put into their bodies and the practices in agriculture and the food industry that they support. This kind of awareness leads people to make healthier lifestyle choices overall and to support their communities as they do so. It also puts them back in power with the products they purchase and allows them to directly contact those that they buy from. If people find out that the local cheese-maker has been putting some nasty chemicals into his cheese it’s not like a big corporation that can just fire a few people and pay some money to avoid a lawsuit - no it means that the locals come down the cheese store and demand to know why he’s been doing that. It gives buyers a new sense of responsibility in the choices of what they eat and where they get it from.
The slow food movement is a great thing to look into especially if you are concerned with living a healthier life.
