Juicing
One of the latest trends in the natural health industry is the concept of eating raw foods or being “raw vegan” because of the believed ability of this diet to give your body more nutrients and a better chance at processing those nutrients than if your food was to be cooked. One thing that goes along well with this diet is the practice of juicing. Juicing is the taking of various plants, fruits, vegetables and so forth and putting them all through a device that extracts the juice from them leaving the tough fibers behind. This can be especially helpful for people who lack in their digestive abilities, perhaps due to some poor food choices earlier in life, because juicing allows your body to have all the good nutrients of the plants without having to break down any tough, fibrous parts. This can make it a lot easier for your body to adjust to getting lots more nutrients and it can be easier on you because you don’t have to eat quite as many vegetables and fruits if they’ve all been juiced together.
One of the big ideas behind juicing is that your body needs to eat as much raw fruit as it can but this can be difficult for people who are used to eating lots of calorie dense food as opposed to lighter food. One way to get around this is to be able to eat less food by juicing because you’re getting the nutrients but just drinking instead of eating. However, it’s important to remember that juicing is not a replacement for a meal because although it may give you lots of healthy nutrients it’s important for your bod to be able to have that fiber in it that it needs as well as for your teeth and gums to stay healthy by being used to chew your food. Drinking too much juice that has citrus fruits in it can also be a problem for your teeth so that’s something to be aware of as well because you could end up wearing your enamel down. Make sure that when you juice you drink it through a straw to avoid having it touch your teeth.
One of the best parts about juicing is that you are able to mix in some of the vegetables that you’d rather not eat with the ones that taste a lot better and this can mean you get a whole lot of vitamins and minerals from other plants and vegetables that may not be as appetizing to you as some fruit is. By mixing certain vegetables and fruits together you can end up with a really nice juice drink that tastes like fruit but has all the other vegetables and their good qualities in there too. The color of your juice may sometimes not be the best looking thing in the world but if you add the right fruits in it will taste great regardless of what color it is.
It’s important, when juicing, to make sure that you drink your juice before your meals so that your body can get a head start digesting it but that you do follow it with some food or you can end up feeling a bit light-headed or even sick. It sort of like taking a vitamin but then not eating anything with it - you’re not going to feel to great because you’re taking in all those nutrients on an empty stomach. Make sure to eat some food with your juice and to drink it right after you juice because, since it’s completely raw, it isn’t going to stay good and fresh very long. Juicing is such a great way to add a healthy component to your diet so get in the habit of it and make sure you have lots of fun coming up with new drinks and juice recipes!
