Healthy Food Healthy Water
We all know how important it is to eat as well as we can because of the huge impact it has on our health (when it really comes down to it- what we eat is our health) and we spend a lot of time making careful choices about the food that we eat but how much do we pay attention to the water we drink? Water is a huge part of whether or not we’re healthy and it’s just as important as the food we put in our body so it’s essential that we pay good attention to the quality of the water we’re drinking. Most of us don’t have a lot of concern when it comes to what’s coming out of the tap and those that do usually switch over to bottled water which can be pretty scary for your health overall. It’s common knowledge that most regular tap water can have some nasty stuff in it and it’s usually recommended that a filter be placed on your water so you can be sure you know what’s going in and out of your body but what about all the people that drink bottled water? That’s much better for you than tap water isn’t it?
Actually it’s not - in fact most bottle water is almost identical to tap water and much of it is tap water - just from the region that the bottling company gets their water from. Sometimes this water is purified and filtered but more often than not - it isn’t. That means that the bottled water you’re paying and extra two dollars for each time isn’t even a better quality of water - it’s just regular old tap water with a fancy label on it - how’s that for a wake-up call? Plus since you have no idea what city that bottled water cam from you have no way of knowing what that city pours into it’s water supply and it could be a lot worse than what you have in your own city. On top of that the plastic bottles that this water is contained is happens to have a bunch of nasty chemicals in it, like BPA, which can easily leach into the bottle and do a lot of damage to your hormone levels. Because the FDA has yet to come out with any kind of a result regarding these chemicals we don’t know for sure if we can safely drink out of these bottles which means the best way to go about it, is to avoid them altogether.
As if all of this weren’t reason enough to switch to a healthier form of water (like purified tap water from your home) the US throws away over 2.5 million of these bottles every single hour! That is a lot of plastic and it adds up quickly in landfills across the country, spilling into lakes, streams, and eventually the ocean. It’s our responsibility to make sure that our planet stays nice and clean so do the healthy and the responsible thing. Switch away from bottled water (or even so called “vitamin” waters which are nothing but sugar and flavorings) and take care of yourself and the planet by drinking filtered tap water in a reusable (BPA free!) bottle.
