Grapefruit
When people think of healing remedies and natural cures there are very few that think about grapefruit. Many people may be under the impression that grapefruit is - just a fruit when really it has all kinds of amazing abilities and healing properties that can do wonders to improve your health. Grapefruit is a popular citrus fruit and it works wonderfully as a breakfast, eating as it is or with the juice as a drink. What most people don’t know as they enjoy this tasty fruit is that it contains lots of powerful antioxidants, tons of nutrients and vitamins, as well as helpful things like folic acid, calcium, and phosphorus. Grapefruits do a wonderful job of improving our immune system and preventing colds and people have used grapefruit juice as a remedy for similar problems like sore throats, fevers, and getting rid of coughs. Grapefruits also have the unique ability to increase the alkalinity of the body (and reduce acidity) which is crucial to allowing healing and preventing disease.
Another amazing aspect of grapefruits is that they have been shown to have anti-cancer properties. There is a unique compound that is found in grapefruits that may be able to actually repair the DNA of cells that have turned cancerous and help treat and heal the cancer. This certainly isn’t the only thing that grapefruit can do. Grapefruit has show to be helpful in lowering cholesterol, controlling blood pressure, controlling blood sugar levels (which makes them great for anyone suffering from diabetes), relieving inflammation from conditions like lupus and arthritis, and even promoting the proper functioning of the digestive system. It’s also been said that grapefruit can help with fatigue and insomnia, with people being encouraged to drink grapefruit juice in the morning and at night to help refresh them and allow them to sleep more restfully. Because of it’s high water content and ability to alkalize the body it’s also very helpful when it comes to flushing out any of the toxins that could be stored inside the body.
One of the best and most popular ways to use grapefruit to your advantage though is to eat it for weight loss. Most people don’t know that grapefruit has plenty of fiber in it which will leave you feeling full and satisfied but it’s also very low-calorie and (as show above) extremely healthy for you. Eating grapefruit in the morning for breakfast, with lunch, or as a snack before you go to bed is a great way to get all those good vitamins and nutrients (potassium anyone?) in there and it leaves your body with lots of water in it to use overnight to prevent you from getting dehydrated. Grapefruit also has special fat burning enzymes in it to help you melt those pounds off even faster than normal - it really is the whole package when it comes to fruit.
These are just a few of the many good reasons that you should include grapefruit in your diet so make sure you pick some up the next time you’re at the store and it will certainly do you some good.
