Educating People About Healthy Food

One of the biggest concerns facing health today in america is peoples complete and total ignorance when it comes to nutrition, healthy food, and choosing what to eat. Most people just do what everyone else around them does which is to eat whatever they happen to find at the grocery store and to assume that because it’s sold - it’s safe for them to eat however much of it that they want and this just isn’t the case. Just because you find something in a colorful box sitting on a shelf at the grocery store doesn’t mean that it’s ok for you to eat or that you should even consider it food because most of what people are eating these days wouldn’t be considered food by a lot of the people that came before us. There are a lot of really smart people in the world but the large majority of even then are completely unaware of the effects of food on our bodies and how important of a role nutrition plays into all of it. Part of the problem with all of this is that food companies that advertise to us make a point of doing so in a way that doesn’t encourage us to make decisions based on logical thought and calculated data but instead to make decisions based on our feelings and our emotions.

Another part of the problem is that we’re taught from a young age to believe that it’s our genes and our family medical history that determines whether or not we’re health or sick most of the time when really it’s our diet and lifestyle that determine how those genes express themselves. We’re also taught that our food choices should be based on calorie consumption and not the actual food that we’re consuming. These calories are supposedly all alike one another regardless of the source they come from which can lead us to believe that rich, calorie dense foods are just as good to eat a fruits and vegetables are. This kind of ignorance is the exact thing that prevents us from being able to keep ourselves healthy and its the very thing that big industries in our society love to capitalize on. This is how drug companies are able to make billions of dollars each year selling medications for diseases that could be prevented by simple diets of fruits and vegetables. Even just supplementing with Vitamin D can make a huge difference in the overall level of health a person has the ability to prevent all kinds of diseases that a person can develop in their lifetime.

On top of that we aren’t even educating our doctors on the ability to use natural foods and supplements to prevent diseases - instead we let people eat all kinds of garbage and spend their time in front of the tv without taking their health into any kind of consideration until they come down with some deadly and dangerous disease and then after that we bring them into hospitals and clinics and make them take all kinds of drugs and go through all sorts of surgeries to fix something that could have been prevented merely by taking a supplement earlier in life and following a healthy diet of natural foods.

This kind of ignorance even permeates or public schools where our children are meant to learn important nutritional concepts but come away from school merely confused about what they should and shouldn’t eat while they’re being fed awful propaganda by the media about what they should look like and do in order to impress their friends and be liked by those around them. This on top of the fact that soda and junk food companies are signing contracts with school to be able to exclusively sell their products to the children that attend there, that vending machines are in every school building, and that most school lunches these days consist of pizza, french fries, and a bottle of soda and it’s no wonder that our children grow up with terrible eating habits that push them into a life of obesity and weight problems along with the diseases that come from them. Even schools that claim to have nutritional lunch programs are serving students nothing but canned, packaged, and processed foods that hold next to no nutritional value and set children on a life path headed towards diabetes and heart disease. Combine that with parents who are entirely clueless about what they should and shouldn’t feed their children, having been lied to by big diary and meat companies their entire life, and the fact that almost everything thats processed at the store comes from corn and it’s easy to see how poor the nutritional knowledge of America really is.

This kind of ignorance cannot be left as it is. It may be beneficial to drug companies to have the entire population of America relying on them for thousands of different medications to make sure that they can continue to live their poor quality of life but for the people who want to live vibrant, healthy lives it’s just an extended death sentence. If the diseases we develop from the awful food we’re fed constantly don’t kill us off then the drugs with their dangerous side effects and DNA altering chemicals certainly will do the job for them. Meanwhile the health insurance companies and doctors offices get richer while we as a country get poorer, shelling out more and more money to people who are just treating symptoms of a much larger problem - that of us not knowing what to eat and how to live in a healthy way. Something absolutely has to change because we won’t survive as a country if we aren’t able to keep ourselves and our children healthy.

If you care about your health and the health of those that come after you then take the time to really learn about nutrition and how it works as well as what kind of lifestyle you should be leaving that way you can pass it on to children, family, and friends so that they too can live the fullest life that is possible for them. Once we all learn how to do this we’ll be in a much better place financially, politically, and health-wise.
