Detoxification

When it comes to changing not only the way we eat but the way we live detoxification is an extremely important process. It’s already been proving that detoxing your body can help you overcome addictions like smoking and drinking. The reason this works is because when you detox you’re removing all the previous substances that you struggled with an addiction with from your body. When you eat or drink things small remnants of them remain in your body and your body craves what it’s used to eating and what it already has in it. So if you’re used to eating junk food and soda then that’s what you’re body will crave. When you detox you flush out all the old remnants of what you’ve been consuming and putting in your body in a way that gives you a sort of clean start. It’s easy to see how this works when you pay attention to how cravings themselves work. Your body doesn’t crave something until it’s already been introduced to it which makes it easy to see what is and isn’t good for you. If you’ve never craved something before but after you have a taste for it you begin to get addicted to it - that’s a great sign that something is really not good for your health.

Detoxing can also have an overall effect on the way your body responds to different foods, either by craving them or by the way they are assimilated. When you’re very young your taste buds are literally developed according to what kinds of food you eat and if you start out being fed all kinds of sugary or super salty foods there isn’t going to be any room for your body to develop a natural taste for things that are good for you. However it is possible to reprogram your body and your taste buds to crave what your body naturally needs and what is good for it.

There are plenty of different methods and ways to detox and everyone has their own take on how it should be done. Some of them involved lots of systems, pills, procedures and so forth and others are all natural. The ones that I’ve found to be best are the natural ones and these are usually the best way to go - after all the point of your detox is to flush things out of your body, not put a whole bunch of stuff back into it. When you detox your overall goal should be to make certain that you’re doing all you can to clear your body out of everything it doesn’t need or want in it while making sure that you’re also giving it plenty of nutrients and things that are good for it. The right detox can help you lose weight, reprogram your taste buds, clear your skin up, get rid of cravings, and do a lot to help you get rid of any food addictions or habits that you may have lingering around preventing you from transitioning over to a new, healthier, lifestyle.

One of the best ways to detox is to simply go on a cleanse and that can include a lot of different things. Some people prefer to fast as a form of cleansing and will simply subsist on water for a couple of days until they feel their body has had a chance to clean itself out. Some people take a slightly less drastic method and will use a basic diet for a preset amount of time in order to clear the toxins out of their bodies. Some people will go on an apple cider cleanse, other people will do a cranberry juice cleanse, others will use a colon cleansing regimen or a liver cleanse. Some people prefer to just work within the boundaries of a certain diet and plan out a time for them to stick to it. For a lot of people this can mean a juicing cleanse where they drink only fresh, natural, organic juices for a specified amount of time. Another way to do it is to slowly upgrade your diet as you go over a longer period of time. Many people will do this by switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet for a month just to allow their body a chance to clean itself out and get back to it’s natural state of functioning. Often this is time with a new habit of taking supplements or a multivitamins or even something like juicing, making green smoothies every day, or even transitioning to a raw vegan diet. This can be a great way to try out a new diet and it can also be an opportunity for your body to purify while you take a break from your normal eating habits. If you do a longer cleanse, like one that lasts over twenty-one days (the time that your body needs to get out of habits) then it can even begin to help reprogram your body and make it easier to stick with new, healthier ways of eating. Some people will simply cleanse with a certain oil or essential extract or even just a few specific types of fruits and vegetables and plenty of water. There are tons of ways to do it.

Whatever type of detox method you choose it’s important to get lots of sleep and drink lots of water because detoxing can be a struggle and you can have withdrawal symptoms if you’ve been eating particularly badly. However, it’s all worth it in the long run because your body will be clean and clear and you’ll be ready to start with a new way of eating and living with a fresh start and an advantage because of all those cravings that you’ll have gotten rid of. Detoxing is such an amazing way to get your body back on track and to give it a clean slate at being able to heal and take care of itself. Make sure you detox under the supervision of a naturopath and always take care of yourself when switching to a new kind of diet. Good luck!
