Benefits To A Vegan Diet
It’s very common for people to see a vegan diet as being very restrictive or limiting because all the see are the foods that you “can’t” eat but this really isn’t the case. In fact most vegans, while they acknowledge the fact that there are foods they refrain from (though most don’t think of it this way because they don’t even view dairy and meat products as food) it’s quite common for them to actually view non-vegans as being deprived because they don’t have all the benefits that a healthy lifestyle can provide. any vegans tout the ideas of living an animal-free lifestyle not just because of the usual reasons (good for the animals, good for the environment etc) but also because of astounding health changes that many of them have experienced. For some reason we all seem to think of vegans and vegetarians as being sickly, ill looking- frail people that don’t have any energy and aren’t staying healthy - all in the name of not eating meat. This is far from the truth and actually just a myth that has been perpetuated - mostly by meat and dairy companies that want people to buy more of their products. The fact of the matter is that vegans are actually far healthier than people who eat the SAD (Standard American Diet) way and there are plenty of benefits to show for it.
One of the most common benefits that’s cited is the ability to lose a great deal of weight. In fact, many people turn to a vegan diet to support their weight loss program and a lot of them find it quite successful. A big part of this is because of the way your body stores toxins. If your body can’t handle the large amount of toxins or foreign matter (like food it doesn’t recognize) in it then it has to find another way of dealing with all of it if it can’t expel it properly.
For a lot of people this can show up as skin problems like acne because the skin, being the body’s largest organ, is actually designed to help you detox through your many pores. If your liver and kidneys are being overworked your body will send your skin messages to help deal with the other toxins. If your skin and organs are already being overworked your body’s last resort is to surround the toxin with fat and water to keep it isolated in one area of the body as a sort of defense mechanism - like quarantining it. So when you remove large amounts of toxins from your body for a sustained period of time (like eating a vegan diet for a week or more) your body is able to turn it’s attention to other parts of it’s physiology that need attending to and that can mean previously stored toxins are flushed out of the system which can result in a fairly dramatic amount of lost weight.
A lot of people are thrilled with this benefit to becoming vegan and many of them lose significant amounts of weight within their first month of being vegan - depending on their weight situation prior to the diet change. However, its important to be sure that this weight loss is coming from toxins that are being removed and not from a lack of the proper amount of calories. It’s important for everyone to monitor their diets but especially for vegans who (though they are getting a great deal more in the way of nutrient) probably aren’t getting as much in the way of calories because they aren’t eating calorie dense foods like meat and dairy products. That means that while they may feel full of vegetables and fruits they might not be getting quite as many calories as they need. Make an effort to fill up on veggies but also to eat small meals throughout the day so that you can maintain your energy levels. Soon you’ll be used to the amount of food that you need to eat but until then make a habit of watching your calorie intake just to be on the safe side.
Another benefit that people really find amazing is the increased energy amount they have when eating a vegan diet. Most people struggle with their blood sugar balance and cycle back and forth from feeling tired and sleepy to feeling awake and wired depending on how much sugar they’re consuming throughout the day. This kind of imbalance often comes from an unhealthy diet and when you switch over to a vegan one you can reset your metabolism and balance out your blood sugar levels which leaves you with lots of energy throughout the day. Eating a vegan diet has also been known to remove mental fogginess and help people think more clearly and sharply as well as stay focused and concentrate more easily. On top of all of that man people have experienced greater results with their workouts and find that they are able to lose weight faster, gain muscle more quickly, and detox their bodies more efficiently all because of a vegan diet.
Another astounding result that many people say they have is the improvement of hair, skin, and nails while on a vegan diet. Because there is far less of a strain that the body is being put under as it tries to cope with all the toxins that are in it there isn’t a need for the skin to be used to detox the body along with the other organs. Instead, the body can allow the skin to do it’s own work while the digestive system gets back in order now that it’s being fed the proper foods for it. With your skin no longer trying to work to expel toxins it can do what it was designed to do and fortunately it’s designed to be beautiful as well. Many vegans absolutely love the way their skin looks when they eat this way and it can be a motivating factor for many people to switch over to such a diet.
There are a lot of really great reasons to switch to a vegan diet and this is just a sampling of them so try it for yourself and see what you think!
