Are Microwaves Bad For You?
It’s a scary thought but there are a lot of people who believe that simple appliances like a microwave could actually be doing a great deal to harm your heath. The way that we cook our food is just as important as the way that we grow it and what kind of food we eat overall. At this point we know that it’s ideal to eat most of your food raw because this allows for the digestion of the most nutrients from it since cooking your food kills most of the enzymes in it which pretty much ruins the good parts of what you’re eating. Plus our bodies are not designed to be able to digest food that has been cooked or heated - such food is actually detrimental to our overall health because of the carcinogens and free radicals that are introduced into food when it’s heated and the acidity that eating such foods creates in our body - which is normally a very delicate alkaline balance.
It’s said that your body requires certain natural enzymes that are found in “live” (or uncooked) foods and that without these enzymes it takes a great deal of your bodies energy to digest the food you eat, thus making it more difficult and counterproductive, as we are meant to gain energy from our food not spend it on the digestion process. These live enzymes don’t survive being heated above 118 degrees F and thus are only available in raw foods. Heating food up beyond this temperature is also what causes the chemical change in it that can produce the carcinogens and mutagens that are associated with various types of diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis and many others.
So will all this that we know about cooking our food what should alarm us most is the way that microwaves interact with our foods in order to heat them up. Microwaves heat food by causing water molecules in it to resonate at very high frequencies and eventually turn to steam which heats your food. While this can rapidly heat your food, what most people fail to realize is that it also causes a change in your food's chemical structure. These changes in chemical structure can cause chemicals from plastic or styrofoam to leach into foods and it can cause the foods themselves to become carcinogenic. This is scary stuff when you think about how often we heat food up in the microwave and especially what kinds of things we put in there. It’s especially concerning for young children and infants that have parents who heat their food - or worse - their formula up in the microwave. These can do a lot of damage to young children and it’s something that parents should really take into consideration.
On top of all of this there is some level of radiation that leaks out from microwaves and while it’s supposed to be controlled and limited by manufacturing companies there is always some level of radiation present and in any amount it can be harmful. For this reason it’s important to step away from microwaves if you use them and to be sure to keep children away from them. Remember that radiation can also go through walls so be careful there as well.
